Biography

Personal Life

Brian was born and raised in Santa Rosa, Ca in Sonoma County. After attending college in Berkeley, graduate school in North Carolina, and working for a few years on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, Brian moved back to the East Bay in 1988. Brian and his wife Allison have lived in Moraga since 2001. Their two children, Brandon and Maddie, attended Moraga schools K-12 and were very active in community and school athletic and performing arts programs.

Brian enjoys traveling, hiking, cooking, socializing with friends, and attending live music and sporting events.

Education

Brian has a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Masters of Planning from the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Career

Brian retired from a 37-year career in city planning and city management in 2022. He worked primarily for Bay Area municipalities and has expertise in long range city planning, development review, the California Environmental Quality Act, as well as the many facets of city management including human resource management, mentoring, budgeting, capital programming, strategic planning, and public outreach programs.

Other Accomplishments/Activities

• Brian was a certified city planner by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and received a 20-year service award from the Institute of City/County Management Association (ICMA).
• He served a four-year term as a Planning Commissioner in El Cerrito, CA.
• He also served as the Interim Town Manager for the Town of Moraga for three months in early 2023.
• He was an assistant coach for the Campolindo Freshman boys’ basketball team in 2022/2023.
• He is an active member of the Kiwanis of Moraga Valley.
