PRESS RELEASE
MORAGA TOWN COUNCIL APPOINTS SCOTT MITNICK AS TOWN MANAGER
On March 8th, the Moraga Town Council voted unanimously to appoint Scott Mitnick as the new Town Manager. The Council selected Scott after a rigorous nationwide search and based on extensive community, stakeholder, and Town staff input on the desired attributes of the new Town Manager.
Scott brings to the position more than 30 years of public service and leadership. His professional background includes over two decades of experience at the executive level, including 16 years in the CEO role as either a city manager or county administrator. Throughout his career, Scott has been visible in, and open and accessible to, the communities he served. He has hands-on disaster planning and emergency response experience, including leading Sutter County through a county-wide evacuation during the Oroville Dam incident in 2017. He has an especially strong background in public finance and fiscal management, and his credentials include a rare blend of public sector and private industry experience.
Scott understands and appreciates the things that make Moraga unique – so much so that he wants to live in the community and is working toward finding a rental property in Town and ultimately moving here as a homeowner. He is drawn to Moraga for the same reasons that brought current residents here – the abundant open space, hillside vistas, beautiful parks and recreation facilities, outstanding schools, exceptional overall quality of life, and a civically-engaged and public service minded community. He is excited by the prospect of working in partnership with Saint Mary’s College, Moraga Chamber of Commerce, local businesses, Moraga School District, and other key stakeholders on revitalizing our downtown commercial areas, expanding housing opportunities to our teachers, seniors and people who work in Town, and continuing the progress toward Moraga being a model college town.
Scott is an avid hiker and outdoors enthusiast. He is married to Mia, a public school educator, and together they have twin 22-year-old boys. One son is a law student at UC Davis and the other is working towards an MPA at the University of Washington.
Mayor Renata Sos had this to say about Scott’s selection by the Council: “Scott is a consummate professional, who also is open, warm and approachable. The Council is confident that he will manage the Town offices with effectiveness and empathy and will quickly become a positive presence in our community. He is the right person to help steer the Town through our many opportunities and challenges today and in the years to come.”
Asked about his appointment, Scott said: “I am humbled and honored to have earned Town Council’s support and vote of confidence in my abilities to manage this organization. Moraga is a special community with a unique sense of place. I look forward to working closely with all Town employees to implement the Town Council’s vision and direction. I am eager to build on the successes of the past to prepare for the opportunities of the future. This is an exciting time to become a member of this amazing community.”
Interim Town Manager Brian Dolan will work closely with Scott to facilitate a smooth transition upon Scott’s arrival on April 10th. Any questions or inquiries should be directed at Mayor Renata Sos, rsos@moraga.ca.us.
